Over the past few days, I’ve had the pleasure to attend and contribute at the youth workshop on illicit trade and other financial crimes. Over the course of the workshop, we heard from various experts on the impact of illicit trade and illicit financial flows in Southern Africa.
As a aspiring trade lawyer and expert, the information could not have been any more valuable. It was quite disheartening to learn just how the enormous potential Southern Africa has keeps being misused because of criminal behaviour and Greed.
My key takeaway from the whole experience was how there exists an avenue for all of us to try to stop these crimes. I was also honoured to come up with strategic realistic ways in which we can contribute to counter all these.
Special thanks to ICOYACA South Africa for hosting us. I’d also love to extend my gratitude to African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) for the strategic partnership alongside UNODC.
