Today, as we celebrate Uganda’s Independence Day, I am reminded of the power of education in shaping free and peaceful societies. I’ve had the privilege of advocating for education as a key tool for peacebuilding in Africa at the Africa Youth Peace Symposium, held on the occasion of the International Day of Non-Violence, organized by UNESCO MGIEP and AfCFTA Youth Advisory Council under their 6th Ahinsa Dialogue.
As we reflect on Uganda’s journey to independence, it’s clear that the foundation of any lasting peace and progress lies in empowering our youth through education. It is through learning, understanding, and collaboration that we can build stronger, more peaceful communities—not just in Uganda, but across Africa.
Happened from October 2nd to 3rd, this symposium brought together young leaders from around Africa dedicated to ensuring that education remains at the heart of peacebuilding efforts across the continent. On this special day (9th October) for Uganda, let’s commit to making education accessible to all and nurturing a generation of peacebuilders who can continue the legacy of independence through unity and knowledge.
